Lit by John Hancock Headmaster Gatow School Berlin 1977-1994 & Wendy Hancock 19th March 2019
Mr Clamp, you were an outstanding leader and always ready to listen and support. We last spoke in detail some years ago, when your wife, Evelyn, was receiving physiotherapy at St Mary's Practice, Bungay and Wendy and I entered and found you sitting patiently in the waiting room. You recognised me even then, despite you explaining to Wendy and I that you had memory problems. We spoke about your many visits to Gatow First School Berlin where you inspected and supported the school so strongly and took part in school assemblies, despite not being pre-warned!! There are also fond memories of the 'Berlin Headteachers' taking yourself and Evelyn to dine in West Berlin and The Berlin British Officers Club on your various visits. You were truly approachable and had such a great sense of humour; your generosity of time, commitment and dedication to the education of Service Children was always profoundly evident. You gained the respect of all with whom you had contact and nothing was ever too much trouble. You laughed so much as you witnessed myself and John Sharpe, Headmaster of Charlottenburg First School Berlin performing a ventriloquist act, where I was the dummy at one of the Headteachers' Loccum Conferences in the former West Germany. Your work, dedication, commitment and leadership will never be forgotten.
